Brought together by Scottish step dancer Sophie Stephenson, TradBeats is a vibrant, dynamic and upbeat outfit fusing traditional Gaelic song with hip-hop rhythms. On vocals are Mòd Gold Medalist, Eilidh Munro, and, hailing from the Isle of Skye, Deirdre Graham, as well as BBC Radio Scotland Young Traditional Musician of the Year finalist, Catherine Tinney. They are joined by Glasgow born, Indian beatbox extraordinaire Bigg Taj. Together they combine old Gaelic mouth music from the Highlands and Islands of Scotland with percussive dance grooves and contemporary, urban beats.

For a special collaboration at Celtic Connections, TradBeats came together with Québécois trio, É.T.É, and Breton duo, Krismenn & Alem, for a concert which brings together vocal and percussive dance traditions from Scotland, Brittany and Quebec combing Gaelic “puirt-à-beul” with Breton “Kan ha diskan” and the Québécois “turlutte”.
