SOPHABULOUS STEP DANCE WEEKENDTwo days of workshops led by Sophie Stephenson
Saturday 19th & Sunday 20th August 2017
Sabhal Mòr Ostaig, Isle of Skye Weekend of workshops (10am - 4pm Sat & Sun): £85 Saturday workshops only: £45 DB&B: £52.80 pp/night ***LIMITED SPACES*** BOOK NOW: [email protected] Sophie Stephenson is delighted to be running a Sophabulous Step Dance Weekend hosted by Seall at Sabhal Mòr Ostaig as part of Fèis an Eilein on the Isle of Skye. Sophie specialises in a close to the floor style of percussive Scottish step dance. She is dedicated to promoting and passing on the tradition and has collaborated on creative projects which have led her to teach and perform at festivals throughout Scotland and internationally in Ireland, France, Spain, Norway, Canada and America. For this weekend Sophie will be joined by fiddler player and step dancer Sarah-Jayne Shankland. The workshops will cover a variety of traditional strathspey, jig and reel steps. Whether you are trying step dance for the first time or have danced before and are looking to learn new steps and work on technique, the course will cater to different ages and levels of ability. The course will encourage participants to make the steps their own; to improvise, experiment and explore the creative and rhythmical possibilities of step dance both in solo performance and social dance. There will also be opportunity for discussion on the wider context of percussive dance and questions about the cultural context and evolution of step dance in Cape Breton and Scotland. Bring a bottle of water and a pair of hard soled soles for dancing. Workshops are open to adults and children (12+) who must be accompanied by an adult. Please note that places are limited. If you require accommodation, then please let us know before Tuesday 2nd of August to ensure a room at the college. Please contact Duncan or Marie to book your bed: [email protected] or 01471844207. Traditional Music Session (Saturday 19th August, 8.30pm) On the Saturday night there will be the opportunity for an informal jam session in the Talla Mòr at Sabhal Mòr Ostaig. Bring your instruments, voices and dance shoes to join in! Everyone welcome. Bar open from 8pm. |
